#LightTheWorld is an invitation to transform Christmas into a season of service. It’s a worldwide movement to touch hearts and change lives by
doing the things Jesus did: feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely,
visiting the sick and afflicted, and showing kindness to everyone.

Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14).

#LightTheWorld is the perfect way to let our light—and His light—shine brightly.

Common Questions

  • Short answer: a vending machine where you can gift a specific item to a charitable organization.

Longer answer: Giving machines are vending machines that are all about the experience of giving instead of buying something to satisfy your own immediate need. You can buy chickens or goats to help families around the world or meals at a local food bank. Items start at $5 and go up to $400, so everyone can have the experience of giving on any budget. After inserting a credit or debit card or tapping digital payment (no cash), a card with a picture of your item drops into a collection bin and you walk away with a digital receipt and a smile for days.

  • One hundred percent of your donation will be used for the purchased item, similar items, or services of greater need as determined by the applicable charitable organization. To ensure this, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints generously covers all credit card transaction fees.

  • The Giving Machines are a seasonal experience that runs during the holiday season as part of #LightTheWorld. Please check out our Location & Hours page to see when they will be in your area.

  • Absolutely! You can make a donation online directly to the organizations participating in this year’s program by visiting their page. Your donations help #LightTheWorld and bring hope to those who need it most.

  • In the United States and United Kingdom, credit card is the only method of payment accepted at the Giving Machines.

In the Philippines, cash is accepted as well as online bank transfer, but credit cards are not accepted.

  • The organizations featured in the Giving Machines represent a wide variety of global and local causes—all with pressing needs and the goal of helping people one by one.

If you’re wondering what you should donate, consider spending a bit of time learning about the charities before visiting the machines or donating online. You might find a cause or item that resonates with you. As you give that gift, remember that your donation is truly helping someone in need.

  • The Giving Machines are just one way to #LightTheWorld. And you don’t have to spend money to help others one by one like Jesus did.
